Caramel Brownies with Chocolate (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - 1 cup butter
02 - 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
03 - 1 ½ cups sugar
04 - 4 large eggs
05 - 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
06 - 1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
07 - ½ teaspoon salt
08 - 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
09 - 11-ounce bag of caramels, unwrapped
10 - ⅓ cup heavy cream

# Instructions:

01 - Preheat the oven to 350ºF. Line a 9 x 13-inch pan with non-stick foil.
02 - Melt the butter and semi-sweet chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl until smooth.
03 - Add sugar, eggs, and vanilla to the melted chocolate mixture and whisk well. Stir in flour and salt until combined.
04 - Spread half of the batter evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan. Bake for 20 minutes, then cool for 20 minutes.
05 - Melt the caramels and heavy cream in a microwave-safe bowl until smooth. While still warm, pour the caramel over the cooled brownie layer and spread evenly with an offset spatula.
06 - Reheat the remaining brownie batter in the microwave for a few seconds to soften. Carefully spread the batter over the caramel layer.
07 - Sprinkle the chocolate chips on top of the batter. Bake for 20 minutes.
08 - Allow the brownies to cool completely. Chill in the refrigerator before cutting into squares.
