Warm Apple Topped French Toast (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ For the French Toast

01 - 8 thick slices of brioche or challah bread
02 - 3 large eggs
03 - 1 cup whole milk
04 - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
05 - 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
06 - 1/4 teaspoon salt
07 - Butter for frying

→ For the Apple Topping

08 - 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
09 - 2 large apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
10 - 1/4 cup brown sugar
11 - 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
12 - Dash of ground cinnamon

# Instructions:

01 - In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the sliced apples, brown sugar, a dash of cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the apples are soft and caramelized, about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside
02 - In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and salt until well combined
03 - Dip each slice of bread into the custard mixture, allowing it to soak for a few seconds on each side, ensuring that it's fully saturated but not falling apart
04 - Heat a large non-stick skillet or griddle over medium-low heat and add a little butter. Once melted, place the soaked bread slices in the skillet. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, until golden brown and cooked through
05 - Serve the French toast hot, topped with the warm cinnamon-apple mixture. If desired, sprinkle a little more cinnamon on top for extra flavor

# Notes:

01 - Finding the perfect soak time is crucial - enough to absorb custard without falling apart
02 - Add clove or allspice to the apple mixture for more depth of flavor
03 - For a dessert version, serve with vanilla ice cream or caramel sauce
