Cheesy Ground Beef Hash (Print Version)

A crispy top with creamy, cheesy filling combined with savory ground beef and hash browns.

# Ingredients:

Meat and Vegetables

01 - 1.5 pounds lean ground beef
02 - 0.5 cup finely chopped yellow onion
03 - 30 ounces frozen shredded hash brown potatoes

Dairy and Sauces

04 - 0.25 cup melted butter
05 - 10.75 ounces condensed cream of chicken soup
06 - 1 cup sour cream
07 - 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

Seasonings

08 - 0.5 teaspoon salt
09 - 0.5 teaspoon ground black pepper

# Instructions:

01 - In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef with the finely chopped yellow onion, breaking up the beef as it cooks. Drain excess fat or liquid once cooked.
02 - In a large bowl, combine melted butter, salt, pepper, condensed cream of chicken soup, and sour cream. Stir in frozen shredded hash browns, the cooked ground beef and onion mixture, and 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese until evenly combined.
03 - Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish. Transfer the mixture evenly into the dish and sprinkle the remaining shredded cheddar cheese over the top.
04 - Bake in a preheated oven at 175°C (350°F) for 45 minutes. Optionally, broil for an additional 5 to 8 minutes until the top is crispy, browned, and edges bubble.

# Notes:

01 - To prepare ahead, assemble the dish and refrigerate overnight. Bake as directed before serving. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week or freeze for up to one month. Use gluten-free condensed soup to adapt for gluten intolerance.
