In a large bowl, combine ground beef, minced garlic, Parmesan cheese, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well incorporated but don't overmix.

Divide mixture into four equal portions and form into burger patties. Make a slight indentation in center of each for even cooking.

Preheat grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties about 5 minutes per side, until internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).

During last minute of cooking, place cheddar cheese slice on each patty. Cover with lid or foil to melt cheese.

Toast buns if desired. Layer lettuce and tomato on bottom half of each bun. Add cheese-topped patty. Spread mayonnaise and ketchup on top bun.

Serve immediately with favorite sides like fries, onion rings, or salad.
