In a 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat, break up and brown breakfast sausage until no pink remains. Transfer cooked sausage to a plate lined with paper towels using a slotted spoon.

In a large mixing bowl, combine pancake mix, water, and maple syrup. Gently stir until just incorporated; avoid overmixing.

Fold shredded cheddar cheese and browned sausage into the batter until evenly distributed.

Spoon the batter evenly into the prepared mini muffin tin. Bake in the preheated oven for 12–15 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
