Homemade Pretzel Dogs (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ For the Pretzel Dough

01 - 1 cup warm water (110°F / 45°C)
02 - 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
03 - 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
04 - 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
05 - 1 teaspoon salt
06 - 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

→ For Assembly and Baking

07 - 8 hot dogs (beef, turkey, or veggie)
08 - 8 cups water
09 - ½ cup baking soda
10 - 1 egg (for egg wash)
11 - Coarse sea salt (for topping)

# Instructions:

01 - Combine warm water and sugar in a small bowl. Sprinkle yeast over the mixture and let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy
02 - In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Make a well in center, add yeast mixture and melted butter. Stir until dough forms
03 - Turn dough onto floured surface and knead about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in greased bowl, cover, and let rise 30-45 minutes until doubled
04 - Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line baking sheet with parchment paper. Bring 8 cups water to boil in large pot, then add baking soda
05 - Punch down dough and divide into 8 equal portions. Roll each into 12-inch rope and wrap around a hot dog, sealing ends
06 - Lower each wrapped hot dog into boiling baking soda water for 30 seconds. Remove with tongs and place on baking sheet
07 - Beat egg and brush over each pretzel dog. Sprinkle generously with coarse sea salt
08 - Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Cool on wire rack for a few minutes before serving
