Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with olive oil or cooking spray.

Heat a large skillet over medium heat and cook sausage slices until browned. Transfer sausage to a plate and set aside.

In the same skillet, add chopped potatoes and sauté for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they begin to soften. Add additional olive oil if needed.

Add diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet with potatoes and cook for 3–5 minutes until onion becomes translucent.

Transfer cooked potatoes, onions, and sausage to the prepared baking dish. Gently fold in asparagus.

Evenly pour chicken or vegetable broth throughout the pan. Sprinkle dried thyme, salt, and pepper over the top.

Cover dish with aluminum foil and bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes.

Remove foil, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the casserole, and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
