01 -
In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for 5–10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.
02 -
Add flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
03 -
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a breadstick shape, about 6 inches long. Arrange them on a parchment-lined or greased baking sheet, spacing slightly apart.
04 -
Bake in the preheated oven for 12–15 minutes, or until the tops are lightly golden and the breadsticks are cooked through.
05 -
While the breadsticks are baking, melt the butter and stir in the garlic powder and half of the parmesan cheese.
06 -
As soon as the breadsticks come out of the oven, brush them generously with the garlic butter mixture. Sprinkle with the remaining parmesan cheese and optional parsley. Serve warm with marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
