Sipping a glass of chilled honeydew mint green tea totally hits the spot when it's sweltering outside. Juicy honeydew pairs up with cooling mint and earthy green tea, making each sip light, sweet, and totally satisfying. It's not heavy or cloying, just naturally sweet, so you'll want it often—think lazy backyard BBQs or quiet afternoons.

This drink started as a way for me to use up some extra summer honeydew. It’s been my go-to for outdoor hangouts ever since, and everyone wants seconds!

Refreshing Ingredients

  • Ice cubes: Make the whole thing super cold—filtered ice is best for clear drinks
  • Sugar: Add just enough sweetness to fit your taste buds. Raw or cane sugar brings something special
  • Fresh mint leaves: These bring a fresh, cool flavor. Pick leaves that look really green and alive
  • Honeydew melon: Gives sweetness and pretty color. Grab one that's heavy for its size and smells good
  • Green tea bags: Bring the earthy, herby background. Go for quality bags or loose tea for better flavor
  • Water: Acts as the base, balances taste—always use fresh cold water if you can

Easy-to-Follow Steps

Chill and Pour:
Fill up your glasses with ice, pour in the fruity tea, add a mint leaf or two, and sip away—that’s it!
Blend Melon and Mint:
Throw diced honeydew and clean mint into your blender, then blitz on high until it’s totally pureed. This gives the drink its big punch of flavor
Mix It Up:
Once your tea cools off, pour it over the melon-mint puree in a big pitcher, then give it all a solid whisk so everything’s blended
Sugar Time:
While the tea’s still a bit warm, stir in your sugar so it melts down nicely. Go lighter or heavier with the sugar, depending on your melon
Make the Green Tea:
Pop the green tea bags in four cups of hot water and let them hang out for about three to five minutes. Take the bags out and let the tea cool so it doesn’t get bitter

Good to Remember

  • Green tea keeps caffeine low, so it won’t leave you wired
  • Perfect way to use up your extra melons after a farmers’ market run
  • Keeps its fresh look and taste if you cool it ahead of time

Honeydew really shines here—its soft sweetness is brighter than most melons out there. I pick melons that feel hefty and smell great so the taste pops. My kids got hooked after one picnic and now beg for it every sunny vacation.

How to Store

Cover the leftover tea tightly in the fridge and drink it up within two days. Stir it well before you pour since the melon settles at the bottom. Want to make it party-ready? Add new ice and mint to every glass for the freshest flavor.

Swap Ideas

Trade in cantaloupe for honeydew if you want a twist, or use honey or agave instead of sugar for a different take. White tea is an awesome option if you want a milder brew.

Fun Ways to Serve

Grab some tall glasses, add loads of ice, and toss on extra mint. Amp it up for a crowd with melon and lime slices. Want some fizz? A splash of ginger ale or club soda totally works.

Yield: 4 Servings (About 1.2 litres)

Dietary: Vegan, Vegetarian, Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free

Ingredients

→ Main Ingredients

01 Ice cubes, toss in when serving
02 4–6 tablespoons sugar, scoop in as much as you like
03 120 ml fresh mint leaves, a bit more for topping
04 2 cups juicy honeydew, chopped up
05 4 green tea bags
06 1 litre of water

Instructions

Step 01

Pop some ice cubes into your glasses and pour in that honeydew mint tea. Chuck a few extra mint leaves on top if you want to make it look fancy.

Step 02

Once the tea cools off, grab a big pitcher. Tip in the tea and the honeydew-mint puree. Give it a good stir so everything's mixed.

Step 03

While your tea's still warm, sprinkle in your sugar. Just add enough for your taste, and make sure it melts right in.

Step 04

Grab your blender and toss in the honeydew and mint leaves. Whiz it up until it's smooth and super green.

Step 05

Heat up the water until it's just about boiling. Pour it over the green tea bags in something that won't melt. Let it steep for a few minutes (however strong you like it), then take out the bags and let it sit until it's not hot anymore.

Notes

  1. To keep the flavors bright, blend the honeydew and mint just before mixing—that way, the melon and mint stay super fresh.
